Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need is #1 in all its categories on Amazon and has sustained that position for several weeks in a row. And Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies is usually ranked just behind at #3 or #4. It is already in its third printing and soon to begin its international translations.
For books published in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and put out there with nothing spent on advertising, this is truly remarkable.
And last week on Amazon, a true milestone: Save the Cat! reached the highest sales mark ever, and was ranked #626 in overall sales for ALL titles. For a list of 3 million plus books, we are not only outselling every other book on screenwriting, but many mainstream titles as well.
Well, soon to join the Amazon family is our Save the Cat! software. Yes, it’s true! This international best seller will be available on Amazon and we are very excited about the news. Now anyone anywhere in the world can find the Cat! method, and jump in today to start crafting a story that resonates.
I want to thank all of you for spreading the word. It’s because of you — one writer telling another — that the message of “storytelling that resonates” has gotten out. We were definitely the under-Cat! from Day One, and I have all of you to thank.
Because of YOU, Save the Cat! is now recommended by most of the top talent agencies, studios, and production companies in Hollywood. It is the go-to tool for every producer, agent, or executive who works with writers and wants them to understand what makes stories work. It is also a language for one writer talking to another about his or her story, to communicate in a way that gets to the heart of the tale fast!
Save the Cat! cuts through the haze that has stopped storytellers from being empowered and has kept us out of the mainstream film market because of the mistaken impression that it is a rarefied world only a select few can play in. I want you to know you can — and should — feel confident. We can play, too!
Because we can!
And once you know how, once the mystery is not so mysterious anymore, you can be as intricate or as simple as you wish, but the basics remain the same. As proven in the sequel to “The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need,” this common-sense approach spans all types of films — from modern big budget classics like Alien, Gladiator and Spider-Man 2 to Indies such as Brick, Maria Full of Grace, and Saw.
No matter what type of screenplay — or story — you are writing, the tools are here to make you more likely to succeed!
Thanks again for making Save the Cat! the most talked about new method of storytelling in decades and a bona fide worldwide success!
And we’re only just picking up steam — the best is yet to come!

Well deserved, Blake!
SAVE THE CAT is my favorite writing tool!

Congrats, Blake! Either “Save the Cat” is great, or all the other screenwriting books suck. I’ll go with the former.

Awesome news! Word of mouth helps, but you had to write an industry-changing book to begin with, so it is us who are still thanking you.

Amen to all that. What you left out is all the support you give that transcends the page; in your blog, yes, but also through your classes, appearances and even private emails. Thanks for being there.

Congratulations, Blake!!
But I am not surprised at all: it had to happen! As I’ve told you many times, it’s about the structural reveals, it’s about the all-powerful 15 beat-beatsheet, it’s about the incomplete hero, it’s about the mighty logline, it’s about popes in the pool, double mumbo-jumbos, black vets, slow glaciers, AND it’s also about a wonderful thing…
It’s about “THE YES”. The boosting, positive, optimistic approach of teaching us that we can do it.
And soon I hope I’ll be the living proof of it. More news soon!

A big congratulations, Blake! We’re all so lucky to have your books and YOU. With thanks, Martin

Amazing news, Blake! Glad to hear people are picking up on your style, it only can light a fire under us regulars asses to get our own projects going!
I’ve been referring to you to everyone as ‘That screenwriting guru’, and I’m glad that I now have some stats to back it up!

Congratulations to you, Blake, and all the members of your team behind that amazing success. Hope we’ll see more of your books on the Continent soon, including the new one.

Absolutely fabulous, Blake! I’m glad it continues to hold strong! Just this week, I was recommending it again to someone. She asked me if it was just for screenwriters, and I told her that was the intended first audience, but that it was great for anyone starting any narrative project. I added that I continue to recommend it to aspiring comic book writers and novelists, as well as beginning screenwriters!
You totally rock, my friend!

Very cool, Blake! Talk about “VALIDATION.” SAVE THE CAT is Number One.

It could be because your book is just plain brilliant; it could be that it is the best for screenplay writers or it could be my reveiw on my website that did it all! LOL.

I wrote in Amazon that everybody points that the second act “is” the movie, but no one shows you what a second act looks like, much less how to write one. Nobody, that is, but Blake. My comment has been well received.
“Save the cat!” makes my other screenwriting books look dumb and boring.

Having already read more than a half dozen other books, listened to tapes and watched videos on screenwriting, I knew I had finally arrived at the clearest and smartest path to writing when I read both Cats. Then at the workshops, I was in awe of you, Blake, and your enthusiasm and optimism. Even through “Dark Night of the Soul” Saturday night rewrites, when I felt so confused, terrified and pressured, I didn’t want to let myself down and more so, I didn’t want to let you down. You are an inspiring teacher and deserve every success. Congratulations. Can’t wait for the new Cat #3!

Blake, perhaps you could title your new CAT: THE CAT WHO ATE THE CANARY

Congratulations, Blake!
I recently had my first opportunity to recommend the Cat books (I only discovered them this summer). I felt like a salesperson with a product that sells itself, or a social worker who was able to get someone a job and off the streets, or a recruiter for a new guerrilla movement ready to take over the world of story! (I can’t help it–I still get excited about the Cat books).
Anyway…a friend was working on comic books, and was having trouble with story structure. I don’t know a thing about writing comics, but I thought, “surely a good story is a good story, no matter the length or format.” So, I told him about the Cat books. That night he bought them on Amazon. Days later I saw him again and he was fired up about his new Cat books, telling me what a “great read” they are, and how happy he is with them.
Congratulations again, and get that third book on the shelves soon!

I have ‘Save the Cat’ and i’m in the process of reading it…I gotta admit, i have an internal conflict with what you said about M.Night Shyamalan’s ‘SIGNS’. =/
YOU STILL ROCK!!! =]

And the rankings will just keep climbing, too. What fantastic books! Thank you, Blake!

Oh no! I hope my boyfriend doesn’t download the software on Amazon before I give him a hard copy for Christmas! [Crosses fingers].
